About This Document
A Portuguese tax-status certificate — the Certidão de Dívida e Não Dívida — is the official document issued by the Portuguese Tax Authority (Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira) used to prove a taxpayer's current tax situation to third parties.
The certificate can show that the tax situation is regularized or, when it is not regularized, state the exact amount of debt. A regularized situation does not always mean zero debt: the Tax Authority treats a situation as regularized when no tax or related amounts are owed, when an authorized instalment-payment arrangement is in force, when a qualifying procedural challenge is pending with the required guarantee, or when tax enforcement is suspended with the required guarantee.
The certificate is valid for 3 months from issue.
How to Obtain This Document
How the tax-status certificate is requested:
Official Portal das Finanças route
In Portal das Finanças, open `Certidão`, select `Pedir Certidão`, choose `Dívida e não dívida` and confirm. The official document is made available immediately as a PDF and can be saved.
Validity
The certificate is valid for 3 months.
What "regularized" covers
If no tax amounts are owed, or an authorized instalment-payment arrangement is in force, or a qualifying challenge or enforcement is protected by the required guarantee, the situation can be certified as regularized. If the situation is not regularized, the certificate states the exact amount of debt.
Important note
Apostille, certified translation or delivery are only needed when the receiving institution specifically requires them.
