DGEstE was abolished in 2025 during the reorganisation of Portugal's education administration. Its former functions were redistributed under the new structure, including AGSE, I.P. and regional bodies.
Older checklists and older instructions may still use the DGEstE name. We map that legacy instruction to the current authority route and keep the file moving.
Private-school documents before apostille
Documents issued by Portuguese public educational establishments are public documents for apostille purposes.
Documents from private pre-school, basic and secondary education establishments can require prior education-authority formalities before apostille.
We identify the school and document, handle the current authentication route and continue directly to the apostille stage.
Typical documents
The route can include school completion certificates, certificados de habilitações, grade records, attendance records, academic declarations and other official records issued by Portuguese private schools below higher-education level.

Public schools follow a different route
