Step 1: get the right academic document
The first mistake is often ordering the wrong record.
A foreign authority can ask for a diploma, degree certificate, transcript of records, certificate of qualifications, diploma supplement, academic declaration or school certificate. Send us the requirement and we identify the Portuguese document.
Step 2: public or private institution
This determines the Portuguese authentication route.
Public educational documents are public documents for apostille purposes. Private higher education documents require authentication through IES, I.P., the successor to DGES. Private pre-school, primary and secondary documents require DGEstE authentication first.
Step 3: IES declaration for Portuguese degrees
Some foreign recognition systems ask for an IES declaration confirming the Portuguese higher education institution or its degree-awarding course.
IES currently lists an official fee of €12.40 per declaration and a maximum issue time of 10 working days from confirmed payment. The declaration is issued digitally and sent by email. We include it in the same case.
Step 4: apostille
Once the academic document is on the correct Portuguese authentication path, we handle the apostille.
Electronic public documents use the electronic route. Paper public documents use the paper route.
Step 5: translation and delivery
We add certified translation where the destination needs it and send the finished file worldwide.
You do not need separate suppliers for the university, IES or DGEstE, apostille, translation and courier.
